Achot - such a simple word. Achot
means sister. It is in the singular form
in Hebrew. You may be asking why we are using
the singular, when the sisterhood is a plurality.
The
singular is to show how we need each and every woman that is associated with
the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations to join us to make the plurality
happen. Achot conveys love, caring
and strength. The women of the Union
will seek to embody these characteristics.
As a sisterhood, we will act in unison to help enhance our love of Torah,
and our witness to the world of the power and love of Yeshua, the Messiah of
Israel.
Our
sisterhood will provide an arena where the women of the UMJC will be able to create
stronger bonds with one another and encourage each other in our strengths. It
will also provide an opportunity for women of all ages to participate in an
edifying and fulfilling role in the Union.
Achot will offer an ongoing menu of educational forums, discussion
groups and a national/international tzedakah project. Through these we hope to not only strengthen
the individual, but the congregational sisterhoods of the Union
as well.
Please
join us in this dynamic venture!
